Hey there my name is Anish Agnihotri and as
a grade 11 student in the York Region, I’m running to be your Student Trustee. I’m gonna start by telling you a quick story. When I was a kid I moved a lot, in fact I
moved so many times that by the time I was in the fifth grade I had changed 16 elementary
schools, this meant I would miss out on work, I’d never made too many friends and I didn’t
feel a sense of community. When I moved to the York Region though everything
changed, my teachers cared for me and helped me catch up, I instantly made students due
to the Board’s policies of inclusivity and equity and I found a feeling of community. Six years later the same holds true, just
two weeks ago I took part in a student-run protest, the largest across Ontario ever against
the Ontario Board Ministry of Education’s changes to the education system. I truly saw the power of a unified York Region,
the power of the voices of one hundred and twenty four thousand student leaders across
our region and I felt that power within me right here. As your Student Trustee I’d like to represent
that voice and be the voice for you at a Board, provincial and national level. So I’m going to leave you with a thought,
Student Trustee has the word trust in it and the only vowel in trust is you thank you.
