I WILL ASK FOR A MOTION TO APPROVE. MOTION FROM MR. OSTERLING. ALL IN FAVOR SAY I. CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. THE SECOND GROUP OF ITEMS DEAL WITH INSTRUCTION
AND THE WISHES OF THE TRUSTEES. WE HAVE A MOTION FROM MR. HILSMAN. STUDENT TRUSTEE? ALL IN FAVOR SAY I. MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. THE NEXT GROUP OF CONSENT ITEMS DEAL WITH
BUSINESS MATTERS. MR. OSTERLING?>>I WOULD REQUEST WE TAKE ITEM FOUR OFF THE
CONSENT CALENDAR SO WE CAN GET SOME BACKGROUND DISCUSSION.>>WE WILL COME BACK TO THAT AFTER THE CONSENT
CALENDAR. WITH THAT WITHDRAWAL I ENTERTAIN A MOTION
TO APPROVE.>>I WOULD ALSO LIKE SOME CLARIFICATION ON
A QUESTION I HAD AN ITEM F12.>>DO YOU WANT TO DO THAT NOW?>>IT SHOULD BE QUICK.>>TO ANSWER ANY NEW CONCERNS, I WOULD LIKE
TO HAVE CANDACE JONES, COME UP.>>GOOD EVENING. THE QUESTION I HAD REGARDING THE DELL CONTRACTS,
I RECOGNIZE PURCHASE ORDERS I HAD FLAGGED WERE YEAR TO DATE. MY QUESTION IS, IS THAT CONTRACT SPECIFICALLY
FOR WARRANTY AND REPAIR, OR IS IT JUST THE TOTAL AMOUNT WE ARE GIVING THE DELL? 359 SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF MONEY FOR REPAIR.>>THE TWO ITEMS, ONE WAS $4000 AND THE OTHER
WAS $9,000. THE $300,000 COST IS YEAR TO DATE. THE NEW COSTS ARE RELATED TO SUPPORT, AGENCIES
THAT COME OUT AND HELP OUR SERVICE.>>IF THE TOTAL CONTRACT FOR WARRANTY AND
REPAIR, OR IS IT EQUIPMENT? IS IT ALL OF DELL’S CONTRACT?>>SUMMER ITEMS WE SEND OUT FOR FIXING, LAPTOPS
ETC..>>THAT MAKES MORE SENSE.>>I WAS ASKING IF IT WAS JUST REPAIR OR MORE
THAN THAT.>>NOT TO BE A DEAD HORSE, AS WE GET THE I.T. TECHNOLOGY MASTER PLAN I AM SURE THIS WILL
BE CRYSTAL CLEAR. THANK YOU.>>WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR, STUDENT
TRUSTEE. SIGNIFY BY SAYING I. MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. LET’S GO BACK TO ITEM FOUR, AUTHORIZATION
AND REJECTION OF RFP. FOR THE FACILITIES MASTER PLAN.>>I PULLED THIS FROM THE CONSENT CALENDAR
SO WE CAN GET BACKGROUND ON WHY WE ARE DOING THIS, AND WHERE WE ARE HEADED.>>THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO RESPOND. WHEN I CAME, I WAS TOLD THERE HAS BEEN AN
RFP FLOWN TO DO THE EDUCATIONAL MASTER PLAN AND THE FACILITIES MASTER PLAN. AND THAT THERE WERE INTERVIEWS LINED UP WITH
FIRMS, FOUR OF THEM TO DO THIS TASK, AND THE DECISION WAS MADE TO WAIT UNTIL I CAME BECAUSE
I HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED. WHEN I CAME, I LOOKED AT THE RFP AND ON MY
SECOND DAY I HAD THE FORTUNE TO MEET, AND WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT SHE HAD BEEN WORKING
ON IN TERMS OF RESEARCH , AND SHE BROUGHT ME A REVISED MISSION STATEMENT THAT WE WILL
TALK ABOUT IN A FUTURE MEETING. SHE BROUGHT ME AN ENVIRONMENTAL SCAN AND SEVERAL
OTHER DOCUMENTS. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE OF DOING AN EDUCATIONAL
MASTER PLAN AT TWO OTHER INSTITUTIONS, IT APPEARED TO BE TO HAVE AN OUTSIDE ENTITY COME
IN AND DO AN EDUCATIONAL MASTER PLAN FOR PASADENA CITY COLLEGE WHEN I PRACTICALLY HAD ONE IN
MY HANDS DID NOT SEEM LIKE A GOOD USE OF COLLEGE FUNDS. I DECIDED THAT WAS PROBABLY NOT THE WAY TO
GO, AND I SPOKE WITH OUR SENATE PRESIDENT. I SPOKE WITH OTHERS IN BASICALLY SAID I THINK
WE CAN DO THIS IN-HOUSE. THAT WAS THE KEY PIECE OF IT. AS I DID MORE RESEARCH, I LEARNED A FEW YEARS
AGO THERE HAD BEEN A DRAFT OF THE FACILITIES MASTER PLAN THAT WAS NOT COMPLETED. IT — A COMPANY HAD BEEN HIRED AND THEY HAD
DONE A DOCUMENT AND FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS, INCLUDING, NOT NECESSARILY INVOLVING ALL THE
CONSTITUENCIES IN THE PROCESS OF DEVISING AND FINALIZING THAT MASTER PLAN THAT THAT
MASTER PLAN HAD BEEN PUT ON HOLD. I REQUESTED A COPY OF IT, AND AS I WENT THROUGH
IT, I DISCOVERED THERE WAS A LOT OF GOOD INFORMATION IN THAT FACILITY MASTER PLAN DRAFT, AND IT
NEEDS TO BE UPDATED, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF WHAT I KNOW FROM MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH
BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES MASTER PLANS, THE KINDS OF INFORMATION WE NEED TO INCLUDE SUCH
AS OUR CAP LOAD RATIOS, THERE IS REFERENCE TO THOSE THINGS NOT INFORMATION ABOUT THEM
IN THAT DRAFT. A BETTER COURSE OF ACTION WHICH COULD COINCIDE
WITH OUR COMPLETING EDUCATIONAL MASTER PLAN WOULD BE TO INSTEAD GO OUT AND ASK FOR AN
UPDATE TO THE FACILITY MASTER PLAN. THAT WOULD INCLUDE THE INFORMATION. AND PART OF THAT SOLICITATION WOULD INCLUDE
OUR EXPECTATION THAT WHOEVER WAS HIRED TO DO SO WOULD INVOLVE THE VARIOUS COMMUNITIES. IT WOULD INVOLVE THE FACULTY, THE STAFF, THE
ADMINISTRATION, THE BOARD, THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES, EVERYBODY WHO NEEDS TO BE INVOLVED IN THE
PROCESS. THAT IS WHY IT IS PULLED. I THINK THIS IS A BETTER MORE APPROPRIATE
AND FISCALLY SOUND WAY TO GO FORWARD.>>THANK YOU FOR THE EXPLANATION, AND WITH
THAT I MOVE WE WOULD ALSO APPROVE ITEM F4, AND I WOULD ADD THE COMMENT THAT THE PATH
YOU ARE GOING DOWN NOT ONLY MIGHT SAVE MONEY, BUT IT MAY GET US TO THE FINISH LINE QUICKLY. THANK YOU.>>WE HAVE A MOTION IN THE SECOND.>>I HAVE A QUESTION. SINCE WE ARE DOING THE MP IN-HOUSE, WHEN DO
YOU PROJECT WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET THAT COMPLETED?>>PROBABLY WITHIN THE NEXT THREE TO FOUR
MONTHS BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE TO COMPLETE OUR VISION FOR SUCCESS GOALS, AND AGAIN BRING
THE NEW MISSION STATEMENT TO YOU, AND ALL OF WHAT WE NEED TO DO FOR SUCCESS HAS TO BE
APPROVED AND SUBMITTED TO THE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE BY MAY 31. MY PREDICTION, MY HOPE IS THAT OUR COLLEGE
GOALS WILL MIRROR THE VISION FOR SUCCESS GOALS, BECAUSE TO HAVE DIFFERENT GOALS, TO HAVE A
WHOLE SET OF ADDITIONAL GOALS WOULD REQUIRE US TO CROSSWALK TO WHAT THE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE
HAS SAID THIS IS WHAT WE WANT COLLEGES TO HAVE AS GOALS. I THINK IT CAN BE DONE EXPEDITIOUSLY BUT WE
HAVE TO LOOK AT SHARED GOVERNANCE CYCLE, AND MAKE SURE WE BRING IN ALL THE CONSTITUENT
FEEDBACK. WITH ANY MP THAT ALSO INVOLVES PUBLIC FORUMS
WITH COMMUNITY GROUPS.>>I WONDER IF WE MIGHT PUT SOME OF THOSE
DATES ON THE REPORTS DUE THAT WE HAVE IN THE PACKAGE THAT GIVES US ALL A VISION OF WHAT
THE NEXT STEPS ARE. THERE IS A PAGE AT THE END OF OUR BOARD DOCUMENT,
UPCOMING REPORTS, IF WE HAVE SOME OF THOSE PROJECTED DATES IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO VISION
HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO GET THERE.>>ABSOLUTELY, AND THAT WILL DOVETAIL INTO
WHAT WE WILL TALK ABOUT LATER IN THE AGENDA IN TERMS OF THE MARCH 20 MEETING AND A STUDY
SESSION RELATED TO OUR GOAL SETTING AS A COLLEGE.>>THANK YOU.>>WE HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND ON THE FLOOR. ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING I. MOTION CARRIES
UNANIMOUSLY. FINAL ITEMS DEAL WITH PERSONNEL I WILL ACCEPT
A MOTION TO APPROVE.>>WE HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND. ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING I. MOTION CARRIES
UNANIMOUSLY. WE MOVE INTO ACTION ITEMS, THE FIRST IS AUTHORIZATION
TO TRANSFER A SECOND QUARTERLY FINANCIAL STATUS REPORT. I ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE. WE HAVE A MOTION FROM MR. OSTERLING.>>MR. HILSMAN. YOU CAN HAVE IT.>>ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE. THE SECOND ACTION TO APPROVE EDUCATION CODE
SECTION –>>I RECOMMEND THIS AND IF THE BOARD HAS ANY
QUESTIONS HOW WE DEVELOPED THE FEE SCHEDULE, I HAVE OUR FISCAL SERVICES TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.>>I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE. WE HAVE A MOTION FROM MS. WAH. ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE. MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. THE THIRD ACTION ITEM THE PROPOSAL FOR NEGOTIATIONS
FOR THE SUCCESSOR AGREEMENT FOR 2019-2020 ACADEMIC YEAR FOR THE FACULTY ASSOCIATION
TO THE AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT.>>WE INTEND TO SUNSHINE OUR RESPONSE WITHIN
THE NEXT BOARD CYCLE.>>I ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE. WE HAVE A MOTION FROM MS. WAH. ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE. MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. ITEM NUMBER FOUR, THE APPROVAL OF ADDITIONS
TO THE CURRICULUM. I ENTERTAIN A MOTION. WE HAVE A MOTION FROM MS. WAH. ALL IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE. MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. INFORMATION ITEMS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
PRESIDENT.>>THANK YOU VERY MUCH, IT IS EXCITING TO
HAVE THIS IS MY FIRST OFFICIAL MEETING. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME HERE, IT IS EXCITING,
AND I AM GLAD YOU LIKE THE GINGER COOKIES. I WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN MY REPORT BY PAUSING
FOR A MOMENT OF SILENT REFLECTION FOR TWO MEMBERS OF OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY AT THE COLLEGE
WHO WE LOST IN THE LAST MONTH. THE FIRST, EVENTUALLY THE EVANGELINA QUINTANA,
AND RUNNER MILLER WHO WORKED IN FACILITIES AS THE COLLEGE LOCKSMITH. THEY PASSED AWAY IN JANUARY. THEY HAVE BEEN REMEMBERED AS VIBRANT MEMBERS
OF THIS COLLEGE’S FAMILY WITH CONTRIBUTIONS THAT WE ARE ONLY BEGINNING TO UNDERSTAND. MY COLLEAGUES AND I HAVE HONORED THEIR MEMORIES
BY THINKING OF THE SERVICE THEY PROVIDED TO THE COLLEGE AND OUR STUDENTS, AND I HOPE YOU
WILL DO THE SAME WITH ME FOR A MOMENT OF SILENCE. [MOMENT OF SILENCE] THANK YOU. IT HAS ACTUALLY BEEN AN HONOR AND A PRIVILEGE
TO BE HERE. THIS IS THE MONTH TWO AND THEY TWO. EVERYONE HAS BEEN SUPPORTIVE AND FRIENDLY. I HAVE TRIED TO GO TO HIS MANY THINGS AS I
CAN, I HAD A GREAT MEETING WITH THE MAYOR OF PASADENA WHICH IS WONDERFUL. IT IS ALL POSITIVE, ALL GOOD, VERY EXCITING. OUR SPRING SEMESTER KICKED OFF YESTERDAY,
AND NOW VERY BUSY. I TOLD THE EXECUTIVE TEAM YESTERDAY I WAS
HAPPY THAT EVEN THOUGH THE SEMESTER STARTED, I COULD FIND PARKING. MY EXECUTIVE TEAM REMINDED ME THAT IS NOT
A GOOD THING THAT I COULD FIND PARKING. IT REFLECTS THAT OUR ENROLLMENTS ARE SOFT. HAVING COME HERE RECENTLY FROM A COLLEGE THAT
WAS EXPERIENCING DECLINING ENROLLMENT, PASADENA UNFORTUNATELY HAS GONE IN LOCKSTEP WITH WHAT
IS HAPPENING ACROSS THE STATE IN GENERAL, AND THAT IS SOFTENING ENROLLMENTS. WE HAVE HAD TO MAKE TOUGH DECISIONS, CANCEL
MORE SECTIONS THAN WE WOULD EVER WANT TO WEEK AS WE DO NOT LIKE TO TAKE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES
AWAY FOR HIM STUDENTS, BUT MY FABULOUS TEAM HAS DONE EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO HELP STUDENTS
THROUGH THE PROCESS. WE ARE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO HELP STUDENTS
GET AHEAD, AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FACT THAT THERE IS STUDENT CENTER FUNDING
FORMULA WHICH HAS LESS OF AN EMPHASIS ON FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT STUDENTS, WHICH HAS BEEN OUR BREAD-AND-BUTTER. THERE IS A LOT INFLUX IN THAT ACROSS THE STATE,
AND WE WILL SHARE MORE AS WE GET TOWARDS JUNE AND WE HAVE OUR TENTATIVE BUDGET DISCUSSION
ABOUT WHAT THE IMPACT OF THE NEW FUNDING FORMULA IS ON A. JUST KNOW WE ARE TRYING TO FIGURE
OUT HOW TO GET AS MANY PEOPLE HERE AS WE CAN. THE COLLEGE HAS BEEN CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY
MONTH ON CAMPUS AND IN OUR COMMUNITY. LAST WEEKEND MEMBERS OF OUR COLLEGE COMMUNITY
MARCHED IN THE NORTHWEST PASADENA AS PART OF THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH PARADE. HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE DID THAT? ALL RIGHT. I AM SORRY I WAS NOT THERE, THAT HAPPENED
TO BE A DEBATE TOURNAMENT FOR MY DAUGHTER. I WAS WITH YOU IN SPIRIT, AND I UNDERSTAND
THE WEATHER WAS AMAZING. LATER THIS WEEK OUR STUDENT AND FACULTY WILL
HAVE CELEBRATIONS IN THE QUAD, AND IN OUR GYMNASIUM. THERE WILL BE THE STUDENT-FACULTY BASKETBALL
GAME, IF YOU ARE AROUND WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU COME AND CELEBRATE WITH US. LASTLY, I GET TO SHARE A LITTLE GOOD NEWS
WHICH IS NOT SUPPOSED TO COME OUT UNTIL TOMORROW. SO, SHH. RICE UNIVERSITY IS GOING TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT
TOMORROW THAT OUR COLLEGE, WE HAVE HAD A MAJOR MILESTONE WHEN IT COMES TO ACHIEVEMENT WITH
OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES, OR OER. ACCORDING TO THAT, PASADENA CITY COLLEGE IS
THE NUMBER ONE INSTITUTION IN THE COUNTRY IN BOTH STUDENT USAGE AND COST SAVINGS FROM
OER. [APPLAUSE] WITH MORE THAN 46,000 STUDENTS
SAVING $4.2 MILLION IN TEXTBOOK COSTS. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK WALTER BUTLER AND THE
LIBRARY. FOR ALL OF THEIR EFFORT. WE HAVE A LOT OF MOMENTUM GOING, AND HOPEFULLY
WE WILL CONTINUE THAT FORWARD. I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR YOUR WORK IN
EMBRACING AND ENCOURAGING THE TRANSITION TO FREE AND REDUCED COST TEXTBOOKS FOR STUDENTS. IT IS VERY EXCITING. AGAIN, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. I REALLY APPRECIATE HOW WELCOME AND WARMLY
I HAVE BEEN WELCOMED INTO THE PCC COMMUNITY.>>THANK YOU.>>I WAS ON CAMPUS AND TALKED ABOUT THE YOU
PASS, SO HOPEFULLY FINDING A PARKING SPACE IS NOT AN INDICATOR OUR ENROLLMENT IS LOW,
AND MORE THAN INDICATOR WE ARE USING PUBLIC TRANSIT AND ENCOURAGING OUR STUDENTS.>>THAT IS A GOOD POINT, EXCELLENT.>>A COLLEGE PRESIDENT SHOULD HAVE HER OWN
PARKING PLACE.>>I DO NOT HAVE MY AM PARKING PLACE.>>WE NOW MOVE TO REPORTS FROM THE ACADEMIC
CENTER.>>WELCOME BACK THE FACULTY TO OUR SPRING
SESSION. A LOT WERE TEACHING WINTER COURSES. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE COUNSELING STAFF
FOR HOSTING A PIE PUNCH PROGRAM WITH A WALK-THROUGH WITH THOUGH FACULTY TO CREATE PROGRAM MAPS. IT IS AN AMBITIOUS GOAL THE SEMESTER TO HAVE
100% COMPLETION IN TERMS OF PROGRAM MAPS FOR ALL DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES. THAT ENABLES STUDENTS TO FIGURE OUT WHICH
CLASSES TO TAKE NEXT, WHERE THEY ARE, AND SO IT IS A HUGE BURDEN ON FACULTY, AND THE
CAMPUS STAFF HAS BEEN AMAZING IN MAKING SURE THE FACULTY UNDERSTANDS WHAT PROGRAM MAPS
ENTAIL AND HOW TO COMPLETE THOSE SUCCESSFULLY. ADDITIONALLY, A GROUP OF FACULTY WENT TO THE
GUIDED PATHWAYS WORKSHOP, FACILITATED BY THE EPI INITIATIVE. WE MADE PROGRESS FIGURING OUT OUR GOALS OVER
THE SUMMER LEADING INTO FALL IN TERMS OF HOW WE WANT TO ENHANCE OUR EFFORTS COLLEGE WIDE. NEXT, WE ADMINISTERED AN ADJUNCT SURVEY ASSESSING
THE NEEDS OF OUR ADJUNCT FACULTY. AT THE END OF THE WINTER , IT ENDED IN DECEMBER,
AND WE GOT THOSE RESULTS BACK. I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A HUGE THANK YOU TO
JASON ROBINSON FOR MAKING SURE THOSE RESULTS WERE REALLY ANALYZED, AND FOR TAKING A PROACTIVE
APPROACH AND THAT THE NEEDS EXPRESSED ARE BEING ATTENDED TO IN A TIMELY MANNER. I LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO WORK WITH
THE SENATE AND THE ADMINISTRATION ON MAKING SURE OUR ADJUNCT FACTUALLY NEEDS ARE MET AS
WE PROGRESS THROUGH THIS NEXT SEMESTER. WE ARE AGAIN HAVING OUR FLEX DAY ON MARCH
14. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK DR. JASON ROBINSON AND THE ENTIRE FLEX ADVISORY
COMMITTEE FOR THE WORK THEY HAVE DONE IN MAKING SURE WE HAVE A SUCCESSFUL FLEX DAY. OUR THEME IS MAKING SURE WE ARE READY FOR
OUR STUDENTS, BECOMING STUDENT READY RATHER THAN PUTTING THE BURDEN ON THE STUDENTS TO
BE COLLEGE READY. WE ARE PICKING UP ON THAT THEME. LASTLY, LAST WEEK I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT
SHARED GOVERNANCE GROUP OF FACULTY CLASSIFIED STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS WENT TO THE PLANNING
WORKSHOP, AND WE DID A LOT OF WORK LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN BETTER ENGAGE OUR NONCREDIT
STUDENTS, AND IDEALLY GET THEM INTO CREDIT COURSES, DEALING WITH WORKFORCE ISSUES, SHORT-TERM
STUDENTS, AND DEALING WITH TRANSFER STUDENTS IN A WAY THAT IS MORE SUCCESSFUL, AND BETTER
ENGAGING EVERY MEMBER OF THE CAMPUS AND HOW WE ALL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN STUDENT COMPLETION. NOT JUST FACULTY, EVERYONE ON THIS CAMPUS
PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THAT PROCESS.>>THANK YOU. WE TURN TO MANAGEMENT.>>THANK YOU VERY MUCH. WE HAVE BEEN BUSY THIS WINTER, WE HELD OUR
WINTER BUSINESS MEETING THIS PAST WEEK OR WE DISCUSSED ACTIVITIES TO BRING RESOURCES
BACK TO THE COLLEGE. ONE THING WE ELECTED A NEW TREASURER FROM
FISCAL SERVICES, WE WELCOME HER TO OUR BOARD. WE DISCUSSED OUR SHARED GOVERNORS COMMITTEES,
MEMBERSHIP, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR ROLES IN THEM. OUR GOALS, WE DISCUSSED OUR GOALS FOR MEETING
WITH THE VICE PRESIDENT OF HR TO MAKE SURE MANAGEMENTS ARE BEING MET. I WANT TO THANK JASON ROBINSON IN DEVELOPING
A SURVEY FOR MANAGERS TO REALLY TARGET THE NEEDS AND BETTER SUPPORT OUR MANAGERS WITH
THAT. I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT, I SAW AS OF FEBRUARY
25, WE WILL BE HIRING LIES EL REINHARDT. WELCOME TO OUR MEMBERSHIP. I WANT TO THANK ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS WHO
YESTERDAY TOOK PART, IT IS SOMETHING WE DO ON THE FIRST DAY OF FALL AND SPRING TO PROVIDE
STUDENTS AND STAFF WITH COFFEE, ORANGE JUICE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING THEM TO THE COLLEGE,
AND THANKING THEM FOR CONTINUING ANOTHER SEMESTER. NEXT TUESDAY IS OUR BASKETBALL GAME STAFF
VERSUS STUDENTS. I INVITE YOU TO INTEND — I INVITE YOU TO
ATTEND, AND YES, I WILL BE PLAYING.>>ARE YOU PLAYING CENTER? [LAUGHTER]>>GOOD EVENING. AT THIS MOMENT WE HAVE NOTHING TO REPORT,
BUT NEXT TIME WE WILL.>>GOOD EVENING. OUR ASSOCIATE CENTER IS HOLDING A WELCOMING
EVENT, AND TOMORROW WE WILL BE HAVING ROOT BEER FLOATS FROM 11:00 A.M. TO 2:00 P.M. AT THE QUAD, AND WE WILL HAVE IN A PERFORMANCE. WE WILL HAVE RESULTS FROM 10:30 22:00, AND
ARE PREPARING A TOWNHALL. THAT WILL BE IN MY REPORT.>>THANK YOU. WE RETURNED TO THE BOARD AND STUDENT TRUSTEE.>>GOOD EVENING, THE START OF THE SPRING SEMESTER,
THE QUAD AND THE PLAZA HAS HAD STUDENTS GATHERED FOR EVENTS GOING ON POSTED BY THE ASSOCIATED
STUDENTS. TOMORROW WILL MARK THE END OF FESTIVITIES
WITH A MOVIE NIGHT SHOWING “THE BLACK KKKLANSMAN” AT THE CULTURAL CENTER. OVER 90 CLUBS WILL GATHER THROUGHOUT THE QUAD
PROMOTING CLUBS ON MARCH 6, FROM STEM CLUBS, THERE WILL BE A VARIETY OF CLUBS FOR STUDENTS
TO TAKE PLACE IN. THERE WILL BE A TOWNHALL OPEN TO STUDENTS,
THE PURPOSE IS TO UPDATE STUDENTS ON WHAT THE LOBBY COMMITTEE IS DOING, AND LEARN STUDENTS’
POLITICAL CONCERNS. WE ARE WORKING ON GETTING THE SENATOR TO ATTEND
THE EVENT AS WELL.>>HI EVERYONE. HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR, YEAR OF THE PAID. — YEAR OF THE PIG. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK FOLKS WHO CAME OUT TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH PARADE. I WAS DELIGHTED TO LEARN OF PCC’S PARTICIPATION. LAST YEAR PCC CAME TO OUR NORTHWEST COMMISSION
MEETING AND PRESENTED AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THE COMMISSION ON HOW TO GET MORE FAMILIES
IN THE NORTHWEST TO ENROLL IN PCC. I WOULD LIKE TO COMMEND PCC, YOU DID THE PRESENTATION,
THANK YOU FOR REACHING OUT TO THE NORTHWEST. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS
WORKING WITH THE DISTRICT TO LOOK AT ENROLLMENT. IT HAS BEEN A PROCESS AND I AM DELIGHTED TO
KNOW THERE IS MOVEMENT IN WORKING WITH THE LA CANADA SCHOOL DISTRICT. LOCKE ANDLA CANADA IS PART OF OUR DISTRICT,
AND THE OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT EFFORT IS TO BE APPLAUDED BY THE STAFF.>>THANK YOU.>>MR. OSTERLING?>>WE JUST GOT BACK FROM LOBBYING IN WASHINGTON,
D.C. WITH OUR SENATORS AND CONGRESS PERSONS. AS USUAL PARTISAN POLITICS ASIDE, MOVEMENT
IN WASHINGTON WAS RECEPTIVE TO COMMUNITY THERE WAS ONE IMPORTANT THING THAT WAS MISSING FROM
OUR DELEGATION. THAT WAS OUR STUDENTS. THE STUDENTS DO SUCH A GREAT JOB ADVOCATING
FOR PCC AND COMMUNITY COLLEGES. I UNDERSTAND THEY HAD FINALS. I’M HOPING NEXT YEAR WE CAN FIGURE OUT A WAY
TO GET THE STUDENTS BACK WITH US. THE ONE THING THAT STRUCK ME WAS THE SURPRISE
OF OUR LEGISLATORS ABOUT FOOD INSECURITY AT COMMUNITY COLLEGES, THE EXTENT OF IT. THEY WERE VERY RECEPTIVE TO FEDERAL LEGISLATION. ONE BALLOON WAS THE IDEA OF EXPANDING THE
FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM, EXPANDING THAT TO THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES. IT TAKES A LONG TIME FOR WASHINGTON TO WORK,
BUT WE ARE GOING TO START PUSHING TO GET THAT TO HAPPEN. LASTLY, I WAS ABLE TO GET IN A HALF OF THE
LANCERS BASKETBALL GAME BEFORE I CAME HERE. THEY ARE FIGHTING TO BE PLAYOFF ELIGIBLE AND
THEY WERE UP 36-27. HOPEFULLY THEY FINISHED THE SECOND HALF WELL.>>WELCOME, EVERYBODY. THE THING I WOULD LIKE TO
REPORT ON IS THE MEETINGS OF THE BUSINESS COUNCIL WHICH HAS BEEN TAKING A POSITIVE INITIATIVE
TOWARD FINDING INTERNSHIPS FOR STUDENTS. DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS WITH BUSINESS AND
INDUSTRY. WORKING WITH THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT. INTEREST IN CLINICAL PROGRAMS. FOR NURSING STUDENTS. ALSO, I SUPPOSE THE CTE ISSUES. I AM VERY IMPRESSED MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY
WHO HAVE RESOURCES, WHO HAVE GREAT OUTSIDE IN BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY. THAT WE CAN CONTINUE THAT RELATIONSHIP. DOING THINGS IN SYNC WITH THE HOW — COLLEGE
THAT ARE GOING TO HELP OUR STUDENTS. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR FOLKS TO FIND A JOB. THAT IS SOMETHING I’M DELIGHTED THE FOUNDATION
HAS STEPPED UP TO PARTICIPATE IN. I AM ELECTED ABOUT THE LATINO COUNCIL. IT IS SO IMPORTANT IN OUR COLLEGE, MAJORITY
LATINO, THAT WE PROVIDE NOT JUST SUPPORT BUT ALSO PROMOTE DIVERSITY IN HIRING. A LOT OF THE OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES FOR THAT
COMMUNITY.>>NO REPORT THIS EVENING. FIRST, I WANT TO RECOGNIZE ONE OF OUR FELLOW
BOARD MEMBERS. CINDY LOU — WU ON THE MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL
DISTRICT. AND WANT TO WISH EVERYONE A HAPPY NEW YEAR. I WAS THERE TO CELEBRATE WITH THE INTERNATIONAL
STUDENTS CLUB. THIS IS THE YEAR OF THE GOLDEN PAGAN AND I
HAVE THREE PIGS IN MY FAMILY. I WANT TO REMIND THE TRUSTEES THE ATI ADVISORY
WILL BE HAVING A SYMPOSIUM THIS SATURDAY. WE INVITE STUDENTS AND PARENTS INTERESTED
IN LEARNING ABOUT WHAT IT TAKES TO GET INTO COLLEGE AND THE RESOURCES THEY WILL NEED,
WE WILL HAVE COUNSELORS HERE. ONLINE REGISTRATION. GREAT WORKSHOPS. I HOPE YOU DO GET ALL OF YOUR STUDENTS AND
PARENTS OUT. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. WE NORMALLY HAVE OVER 200 PARENTS AND STUDENTS. I HAD A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EQUITY
DIVERSITY SUMMIT. I KNOW A NUMBER OF OUR STAFF AND FACULTY WERE
THERE AND I APPRECIATED SEEING THEM. I
THINK IT IS GOING TO BE A BIG INITIATIVE IN THE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE. HE GAVE A BRIEFING ON HIS VISION. I HAVE ASKED IT TO BE ONE OF THE KEY THEMES
FOR THE MAY CONFERENCE. IN ADDITION, HOPEFULLY YOU WILL GO TO SQUAW
VALLEY. WE WILL BE ROLLING OUT THE DASHBOARD. ONE OF THE ISSUES IS THE DATA DESEGREGATION. THEY WILL BE SHOWING SOME OF THE DATA THEY
HAVE COLLECTED. I HOPE THIS WILL BE RELEVANT FOR US. I WANTED TO THANK THE STUDENTS WHO DID ATTEND
IN SACRAMENTO. THEY WERE VERY IMPRESSIVE. THEY WERE ABLE TO ADVOCATE IN SACRAMENTO. I THINK OUR LEGISLATORS WERE IMPRESSED. I ECHO THE URGING WE ENCOURAGE AND ALLOW FOR
STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND THESE EVENTS. I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THEM . THEIR LEADERSHIP
GROWS. I WROTE A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR ONE
OF THE STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED LAST YEAR. IT WAS BASED ON HIS ABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE
LEADERSHIP. I WANTED TO SAY THE WOMEN’S GROUP WILL BE
CELEBRATING THE CENTENNIAL OF THE 19TH AMENDMENT. IT IS NATIONAL WOMEN’S POLITICAL CAUCUS. THAT IS THIS MONDAY. MONROVIA. ANYONE WHO ONCE TO ATTEND IS WELCOME.>>I REPRESENTED HER AT THE ANNIVERSARY OF
THE WOMEN’S RIGHT TO VOTE. OUTSTANDING WOMEN. SOME OF THE WOMEN WHO LIVED THERE, FIRST PROFESSORS
OF WOMEN AND POLITICS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER. AN AMAZING GROUP OF DOCUMENTARIANS AND I HAD
A GREAT TIME. THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE. NOW ONTO PROPOSED FUTURE BUSINESS. WE WILL HAVE A SPECIAL MEETING. 4:15 TO 5-15.>>I WANT TO ASK THE INDULGENCE OF THE BOARD. APRIL 17, I AM GOING TO BE FLYING OUT FOR
AN EXTENDED TRAVEL. I WONDERED IF WE COULD MOVE IT UP A DAY OR
TWO. IF I COULD SUGGEST THE 15TH. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH.>>I WOULD LIKE TO DO THE TUESDAY. WHAT DAY ARE YOU LEAVING?>>THIS WOULD BE OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING. I HAVE ONE MORE REQUEST. THE OTHER REQUEST, I WILL NOT BE HERE ON MAY
15. IF WE COULD MOVE IT TO A SLIGHTLY LATER DATE
IN MAY, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE THAT. MAY 15. IF WE COULD MOVE THAT. IT HAS TO BE A FEW DAYS AFTER THAT. QUITE ASK IS THERE AN ISSUE HAVING THE MEETING
DURING THE SPRING BREAK?>>I WILL HAVE TO BE AWAY FOR THE MEETING. WE ARE LOOKING AT APRIL? HE WAS RECOMMENDING 17-16. AND THEN IT SAYS SPRING BREAK. MAYBE IT TO BE A DIFFERENT WEEK.>>I COULD DO THE WEEK EARLIER OR ANY TIME
EARLIER.>>IT IS THE DATE WE ARE HAVING THE JOINT
MEETING WITH THE STUDENTS.>>LET’S LOOK ONE AT A TIME, MAYBE. QUITE ASK IT MAKES SENSE TO MOVE IT TO WEDNESDAY
THE 24TH. LET’S DO THAT. MAY 24 KNOW, THAT WILL NOT WORK FOR ME. I’M NOT INDISPENSABLE, BELIEVE ME. I CAN CALL IN.>>DO THAT. YOU COULD IF YOU WANTED. IT MIGHT BE THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.>>I’M WONDERING WHAT IS BEST FOR STAFF.>>WHETHER OR NOT TO HAVE IT DURING THE SPRING
BREAK?>>I DON’T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.>>IT IS THE WEEK OF THAT MEETING. GIVEN THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR, I HAVE NO IDEA
WHO IS HERE AT SPRING BREAK AND WHO IS NOT. THE FACULTY ARE GONE?>>WE HAVE A MEETING. NEXT WEEK. MAYBE YOU COULD FIGURE OUT AND WE COULD TALK
ABOUT THAT.>>THE MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELED.>>I WAS ADVISED THE INFORMATION WILL NOT
BE BACK IN TIME FOR NEXT WEEK. I APOLOGIZE. I HAD NOT DONE MY CALCULATIONS CORRECTLY. WE ARE NOT MEETING ON THE 27TH. WE WILL HAVE TO DETERMINE ANOTHER TIME BEFORE
THE MARCH 20 MEETING. WE WILL ALSO BRING FORWARD PROPOSED DATES
FOR APRIL AND MAY TO ACCOMMODATE TRAVEL SCHEDULES.>>MY APOLOGIES.>>I KNOW YOU WILL BE WATCHING THE BOARD OF
TRUSTEES PAGE CLOSELY.>>WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, THERE ARE OCCASIONAL
MEETINGS TRUSTEES CANNOT MAKE. SOMETIMES WE STAY THE COURSE.>>WAS THE ISSUE YOU WOULD BE GONE FOR TWO
CONSECUTIVE MEETINGS?>>I WANTED TO RAISE THE FACT I WOULD NOT
BE THERE FOR THOSE. IF YOU COULD ACCOMMODATE ONE, THAT WOULD BE
GREAT. I’M NOT INDISPENSABLE.>>LET’S TRY TO A COVETED THE APRIL MEETING
BUT TRY TO KEEP THE MAY MEETING THE WAY IT IS. WE WILL WORK ON THOSE DATES. MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS APPRISED.>>FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS. QUITE ASK –>>I WOULD LIKE TO SAY FOR OUR NEXT BOARD
MEETING, I WILL BE BRINGING FORWARD THE REVISED MISSION STATEMENT. WE WILL HAVE A STUDY SESSION TO TALK ABOUT
OUR VISION FOR SUCCESS GOALS. AS WELL AS THE PROCESS THE COLLEGE HAS UTILIZED
TO ARRIVE AT THOSE GOALS.>>FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS. IF THERE IS NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THIS MEETING
IS ADJOURNED.
