NOW AT 5 — DEVELOPMENTS IN A FRAUD CASE AGAINST A FORMER BANK EXECUTIVE. FORMER MONARCH MORTGAGE CEO EDWARD YODER WAS SENTENCED THIS AFTERNOON TO 2 YEARS IN PRISON. YODER PLEADED GUILTY IN OCTOBER TO A SCHEME DEFRAUDING HIS CREDITORS BACK IN 2012. 10 ON YOUR SIDE’S MARIELENA BALOURIS JOINS US LIVE WITH THE LATEST FROM COURT. TED YODER WAS SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS BEHIND BARS TODAY. HIS ATTORNEY SAYS — GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES — THEY ARE HAPPY WITH THE SENTENCING. BOTH THE PROSECUTION AND DEFENSE SPOKE TODAY — AND DESCRIBED THE SITUATION AS A “SAD OCCASION.” THE PROSECUTION SAID THAT YODER’S ACTIONS RUINED HIS GIRLFRIEND’S LIFE — SHE WAS THE ONE WHO HELD THE MORE THAN 300 THOUSAND DOLLARS WHEN YODER DECLARED BANKRUPTCY BACK IN 2012. YODER’S ATTORNEY ARGUED THAT YODER HAD A VERY LIMITED CRIMINAL HISTORY BEFORE THIS — AND AFTER HIS CANCER DIAGNOSIS, HIS LIFE SPIRALED DOWNWARD. YODER ADDRESSED THE COURT — APOLOGIZING FOR USING THEIR TIME AND RESOURCES. HE SAYS HE TAKES FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT HAPPENED. YODER’S ATTORNEY DID ASK FOR YODER TO BE ABLE TO SELF-REPORT — BUT THE JUDGE ORDERED YODER TO TO JAIL STRAIGHT FROM THE COURTROOM. RICHARD DOUMMAR, YODER’S ATTORNEY “THE JUDGE BEST THAT HE START HIS TIME NOW. AND WE WERE PREPARED FOR THAT AND EXPECTED THAT.” HOPEFULLY IN 21 MONTHS HE WILL DIG HIMSELF OUT AND BECOME PROSPEROUS AGAIN. ALL OTHER CHARGES AGAINST YODER HAVE BEEN DROPPED. THE JUDGE DID ORDER HIM TO TAKE MENTAL AND HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING PROGRAMS. HE WILL ALSO HAVE TO PAY FULL RESTITUTION. IN NORFOLK, I’M MARIELENA BALOURIS, TEN ON YOUR SIDE.
