HELLO, I’M EJ ALBAUGH AND A DAILY BAROMETER
SPECIAL REPORT WE WILL NOT BE MOVED! A PROPOSAL OF A FOUR PERCENT INCREASE IN TUITION
FOR INSTATE STUDENTS AND A TWO PERCENT INCREASE FOR OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS WAS NEVER VOTED
ON BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FRIDAY AFTERNOON.CHAIRWOMAN OF THE BOARD, PAT RESER, ADJOURNED THE MEETING
WITHOUT THE BOARD VOTING OR COMING TO A CONCLUSION REGARDING THE POSSIBLE INCREASE IN TUITION
RATES AFTER THE GROUP OF PROTESTERS CONTINUED TO CHANT AFTER RESER OFFERED AN ALTERNATIVE
WAY TO COMMUNICATE BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES.THE GROUP OF ROUGHLY 20 STUDENTS, FACULTY AND
COMMUNITY MEMBERS VOICED THEIR OPINIONS ON PRESIDENT ED RAY’S SALARY AND STATED THAT
THEY DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE STUDENT’S WERE A PRIORITY TO THE BOARD.CHANTING TO THE
BOARD MEMBERS, THE PROTESTERS BROUGHT FOUR DEMANDS THAT THEY WANTED ADDRESSED.FIRST,
THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES REJECTS PROPOSED TUITION INCREASE AND CREATE AN EMERGENCY BUDGETARY
COMMITTEE TO WORK SPECIFICALLY ON REDUCING TUITION AND OTHERS COSTS TO STUDENTS.SECOND,
BOARD OF TRUSTEE MEETINGS MUST BE MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR STUDENTS, FACULTY AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS
TO ATTEND.THIRDLY, THAT THE BOARD PROVIDE A SUFFICIENT BASE OF RESOURCES ACROSS ALL
AREAS OF EDUCATION–SPECIFICALLY DEPARTMENTS THAT STRUGGLE WITH UNDERFUNDING.FINALLY, THAT
EVERY OSU EMPLOYEE WITH A SALARY ABOVE $150,000 MUST TAKE A VOLUNTARY PAY CUT.A NEW MEETING
TIME AND DATE HAS YET TO BE SET. FOR COMPLETE STORIES FROM TODAY’S NEWS BLAST
